Hunters may shoot their rifles in Sand Point if they wish. If weather allows, every effort is made to fly hunters out to their tent camps the same day they arrive in Sand Point. Assistant guides will have camp all setup and be awaiting the hunter’s arrival.
Sand Point town is located on Popof Island and our guide area is located over on the mainland. Flights are between 15 and 25 minutes one way from Sand Point.
Days will be spent glassing for mature brown bears. Our assistant guides are very experienced in judging brown bears. Since brown bears have such an amazing sense of smell, walking will be very limited to camp areas and glassing areas until a mature brown bear is spotted. Stalks will only be conducted if the assistant guide feels that there is a high probability of getting a good shot opportunity on the bear. Shots will only be attempted under 150 yards, ideally under 100 yards.
Rifle caliber of less than .300 caliber with a 180-grain bullet will not be permitted. Ideal brown bear rifles are .338 or .375 caliber. Weather can range from 38*F to 60*F. High winds and heavy rain can be expected. Our assistant guides are very experienced in camping in such inclement conditions and are very capable of keeping a safe, comfortable camp in adverse conditions. Hunters must be prepared for the possibility of tent-bound weather days.

HOWL FOR WILDLIFE
Speak up on issues facing hunters
North America’s wildlife & fisheries are constantly under threat. These threats are often based on misguided emotions, anthropomorphism, misunderstandings, and lack of scientific evidence. Howl For Wildlife aims to protect all wildlife from what could be their destruction if management practices are removed, however we cannot achieve our goals without the pack coming together as one.
