Wyoming to begin Grizzly Trapping and Monitoring

The yearly grizzly and trapping of Wyoming Grizzly bears will begin on May 13 and last until June 14th.  This year trapping will be done in the Dubois, Wyoming area.

Monitoring of grizzly bear distribution and other activities are vital to the ongoing recovery of grizzlies in the Yellowstone Ecosystem. To attract bears, biologists utilize natural food sources such as fresh road-killed deer and elk to capture grizzly bears with snares and/or culvert traps. Trapped animals are immobilized, processed, released on site, and monitored in accordance with strict protocols developed jointly by the Wyoming Game and Fish, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team.
