Sheep Killer Still on Loose

Officials are still searching for a sow grizzly bear responsible for killing 70 sheep in Montana.

the adult bear on Tuesday and Wednesday killed 47 lambs, five ewes, five big rams and one ram lamb at a family ranch near Conrad. The bear struck again Friday and killed two ewes at another ranch 48 miles northwest of Great Falls, they said.

Mike Madel, a grizzly bear management specialist with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, said the bear is not killing for sport.

“She’s gotten this protein reward from domestic sheep so she’s looking for sheep,” he said.
