Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) developed the original grizzly bear management plan and programmatic environmental impact statement for grizzly bear management in southwest Montana in 2002. The management plan and Environmental Impact Statement was effective for a ten year period (2002-2012). Since development of that plan the Final Conservation Strategy for the Grizzly Bear in the Greater Yellowstone Area has been published (2007) and numerous policies and Montana Codes have been adopted, altered, or removed relative to grizzly management.
